How Long Does Resin Driveway Installation Take?

One of the most practical questions we're asked. Here's a clear breakdown of how long each phase takes — from groundworks to the moment you can drive on it.

One of the practical concerns homeowners have about any driveway project is disruption. How long will the drive be out of use? How many days will there be vehicles and workers outside? Here's an honest breakdown.

Typical Installation Timeline

Day 1: Groundworks (if required)

For a new installation where the existing surface needs to be removed:
  • Excavation of existing surface and base material
  • Removal and disposal of spoil
  • Sub-base preparation: laying and compacting MOT Type 1
  • Setting out and bedding edge restraints / border kerbs
  • Duration: 1 day for a typical residential driveway (up to 60m²). Larger or more complex projects may take 2 days.

    Day 2: Resin Installation

  • Final surface preparation (cleaning, priming)
  • Mixing resin and aggregate
  • Trowel application and finishing
  • Final tidying of edges
  • Duration: Half a day to a full day depending on area.

    After Installation: Curing

  • Foot traffic: After approximately 4–6 hours
  • Vehicle traffic: After 24 hours (in normal conditions)
  • Full cure: 72 hours — avoid pressure washing or chemical contact until then
  • If Overlaying an Existing Surface

If your existing concrete base is sound and we can overlay directly:
    • The groundworks phase is significantly reduced or eliminated
    • The entire installation (surface preparation + resin) can often be completed in a single day

    What Affects the Timeline?

  • Size: A 100m² driveway takes longer than a 40m²
  • Complexity: Intricate border patterns, multiple cutouts, or stepped areas take additional time
  • Weather: Resin installation requires dry conditions and temperatures above 5°C — if the weather isn't cooperating, we may need to adjust the schedule
  • Access: Restricted access may slow groundworks
  • Will I Have Access During the Work?

We try to maintain pedestrian access throughout where possible. For the resin installation phase itself, the area is closed for the day. Vehicle access returns within 24 hours.
