Resin bound driveways are widely described as 'virtually maintenance-free' — and compared to block paving or gravel, that's absolutely true. But a little care goes a long way toward keeping your resin driveway looking its best for decades. Here's what we recommend.
Routine Maintenance (Monthly)
Leaf and Debris Removal
The biggest enemy of a resin driveway's appearance is leaf build-up. Decomposing organic matter can stain the surface and, over time, allow moss and algae to establish. During autumn especially, keep the surface clear of leaves.A stiff brush, leaf blower, or light pressure wash (cold water, not high temperature) will keep the surface clean.
Annual Maintenance
Pressure Washing
Once a year, a thorough cold-water pressure wash will remove embedded dirt, algae, and surface contamination. Use a wide fan tip (not a point nozzle) and keep it moving — concentrated pressure in one spot can dislodge aggregate if the surface is older or the bond is compromised.Avoid: Hot pressure washing, harsh chemical cleaners, or solvents. These can attack the resin binder and degrade the surface prematurely.
Edge and Border Check
Inspect the border edging annually for any movement, cracking, or joint erosion. Repointing or minor repairs to borders are much cheaper than waiting for a border to fail and affect the resin surface. If You See Moss or Algae
A proprietary patio/driveway cleaner that's safe for resin (check the manufacturer's guidance) applied according to instructions and then rinsed off will deal with moss and algae effectively. Avoid bleach-based products unless specifically confirmed as resin-safe.
What NOT to Do
When to Call Us
- If you notice any of the following, contact us:
- Loose or missing aggregate patches
- Cracking or delamination from the sub-base
- Pooling water that previously drained correctly
Many issues caught early can be repaired at low cost. Left unaddressed, they can escalate into more significant problems.
