The aggregate — the natural stone chippings blended with resin to create the surface — is the single most visible element of your resin bound driveway. It determines the colour, texture, and overall character of the finished surface. Here's how to choose wisely.
What Is Aggregate?
In resin bound surfacing, aggregate refers to small natural stone chippings (typically 1–3mm in size for driveways, or 2–5mm for larger areas) that are coated in UV-stable resin and trowel-applied to create the finished surface. The colour of the aggregate is the colour of your driveway.
The Main Aggregate Types
Rounded vs Angular
For residential driveways, both work well — it's largely an aesthetic preference.
Natural Stone Aggregates
Buff and Honey tones (sandstone, limestone-based blends): The most popular choice in Yorkshire. Complement the natural stone used in most Yorkshire homes. Warm and welcoming.
Grey tones (granite, basalt, recycled glass blends): Clean, contemporary, suits modern homes and grey render. Particularly popular in urban settings.
Brown and toffee (brown flint, red/brown blends): Rich, earthy quality. Works beautifully with red brick and darker stone properties.
White and light cream (white marble, quartz): Light, bright, premium appearance. More visible when marked — requires more frequent cleaning.
